Dear Sir,
I saw your advertisement for "the perfect lighter" in Sunday Times last week and immediately sent off a £2 postal order and the completed form for the lighter.
Imagine my surprise when all I got in return was a box of matches! I could understand a mistake. I might even pardon a joke. But in this case, your advertisement is a deliberate lie since a friend of mine who also sent the coupon got the same result.
I think its a shame to promise an economical lighter when in fact you are not selling a lighter a1 all. Instead of saying it works quickly, you should admit that you are offering matches. And what about "only" £2: I usually pay 10 pennies for a box of matches, and they are often given away free.
I regard your advertisement as a serious deception and demand that you send me my money back immediately. Otherwise I will take active steps to make sure the Consumers Association hear about it.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Li

Dear Sir,
I am highly disappointed in the proposed 20xx-05 budget cuts to educa1ion. Taking away basic aid status and slashing our school budgets is a recipe for educational disaster in our school. The future lies with our children. They must have access to high quality educa1ion.
My husband and I have worked hard to be able to live in a school district that provides high quality education for our children. Cutting funding in districts like ours will have a negative impact on property values.
The school that my daughter attends is hardly wha1 I would describe as a "rich" school. Parents are asked to pay for books for all the classes, science supplies and for their students to participate in the performing arts among other items. If our school is to remain a world leader in technological development, cutting our school funds is the worst possible choice to make.
Education funds should not be diverted away from education.
Yours faithfully,
Tom Williams

Dear Mr. Williams,
Thank you for your letter of congratulation on my exam results. I was very pleased to hear from you. The results were a great relief. I did much better than I thought I would.
We are having a celebration party on Saturday 22 May and we shall be pleased if you can come. It is a party for me, but my parents and some of their old friends are joining in, so you will find "real people" as well as teenagers to talk to.
The party starts at half past six- drinks, and a buffet supper later. You said in your letter that youve given up driving, so my father will meet you with the car at San Mateo station. Please let me know what time your train arrives.
There is a good train back to San Palo at 10:30 and well arrange transport for you to catch that. I hope that wont be too late for you. It would be a pity if you had to leave while the party was still in full swing.
I do hope that you will be able to come.
Yours sincerely,
Lily Chen

Dear Henry,
I’m pony in class ten grade two.
I know you have been to Switzerland. I have been to Switzerland for ten days during this summer vacation with my mother and father invited by Switzerland Tourism , all for free! The Chinese Travel Channel makes a telefilm about our trip. If you have time, you can see the film on 9 o’clock next Sunday.
I went to Saas_fee to see the cows fighting, have you been there? Have you been to the Matterhorn? I went to the snowmoutains, there were so hot! Because the mountains are so high, they are near to the sun, so theree a lot of sunshine. The snowmoutains
are so beautiful.
I went to the Swiss miniature in Ticino. Swiss miniature is something like that you can go around Switzerland in half an hour. The Swiss Miniature is not real Switzerland, but I think it’s good. If you go there, you should remember one thing—Dont walk too fast.
Have you been to Locano to see a film? I went to Locano to see the festival del film , and remember one thing—
you should walk fast, because the films begin on time. I lived in a stonehouse on the mountain in Ticino, and we must drive the cablecar ourselves.
I went to the best golf course of Switzerland in Montana, and I went to play “Fun Forest”. I went to visit Lausanne Olympic Museum, and joined the action named “I’m hero”——act as a superman, and try to be a real superman. There is a game “try to be”——you must try to be something, maybe a superman or something else. I tried to be a superman, and tried to fly.
I went to the chillon castle by boat. In chillon castle there’re so many rooms, but what I like most is the bathroom! Because it’s so funny: it’s 14 meters deep, the bottom is the lake Geneva, the fish there were so fat. Why? Because the dirty things feed them.
I went to a restaurant where have Chinese people and Chinese food, in Switzerland, there are not all Swiss, but there are Chinese too. Switzerland and China have one same thing: that is sunshine.
Would you like to see my photos?

Dear Sherri,
By the time you read this you will be 30. At the age of 18 I had so many hopes and dreams about where youd be, what youd be doing and with whom youd spend your life with.
Right now I hope that you have traveled and seen everything youve always wanted to, both in Canada and overseas, and maybe even settled down somewhere in Australia doing some research in the field of biology (genetics).
I hope youre married to the man of your dreams. The man of mine is Gwynn. He is originally from South Africa (another place I wish to visit).
Youll probably have two children of your own – a girl(Michaela Anne) and a boy (name yet to be decided).
If everything goes according to plan youll be living in Australia in a big house in a small town outside of a big city with a lot of land, a dog, Gwynn and your two beautiful children. Hopefully you have a career in the medical field, maybe doing research in genetics. Gwynn will be a computer programmer and you will be doing alright for yourselves.
However, if things dont go according to plan for you, I wish you all the love, happiness and joy in the world and dont settle for anything less than the best since that is absolutely what you deserve.
Live long, be happy and live life to its fullest.
Love Sherri "18"
When I read this for the first time since writing it I was floored. Even now having dug this up again another 4 years later I still cant help but think this is really cool.
So much of what I wanted for myself has materialized.
I did travel to a few more places in Canada although I havent seen everything Id like to.
I did marry the man of my dreams and yes he still is my one and only.
Ive traveled to the UK, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
I lived in Australia for nearly 4 years in a big house, in a small suburb, in a major city (close enough).
I had a career in Biology in the field of genetics for 10 years.
I have two lovely kids – both boys (names now decided).
I have not one dog but two dogs. Both yellow labs from Australia.
Gwynn is a computer programmer.
We are doing okay for ourselves.
After writing this I quickly forgot about what I had put in here actually. The things that materialized were all met with quite a bit of resistance (all internal) but I suppose these were things that I really did want. Having never strayed too far from home overseas travel was a huge deal. Having never been away from my family moving to Australia for several years was an incredibly huge decision.
I find it fascinating how the dreams of a young and naive little girl can become a grown womans reality.
Im curious if you guys have ever written anything to your future self and how it stacks up to your current reality. If you havent, will you join me in writing a letter now to yourself in say 10 years from now? Its an interesting little experiment.
Yours sincerely,
Lily Chen

Dear Billy,
I am very sorry to inform you I won’t be able to go to Yangminshan with you on the occasion of the Moon Festival because I just got a phone call from the U.S.A. Ma and Pa will be back ahead of schedule in order that they can get together with us on this special holiday. They of the older generation consider the Moon Festival a reunion day on which all members of a family are requested to be back home no matter how far apart they are.
Under such circumstances how could I hurt their feelings by going with you to watch the brilliant moon on the night of the Moon Festival? I hope can understand my situation and put our appointment off till the day following the Moon Festival. I was told the moon on that day is much more beautiful than the one on the very day of the festival. Besides, we shall be able to avoid the holiday rush and enjoy the quiet under the moon.
Do you think it’s a good idea? I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Regards.
Cindy.

Dear Headmaster,
I am a student of our school.I,d like to say something about the canteen service in our school.
There are 3 advantages of canteen service in our school.First, our canteen is very clean,Second, the food is delicious,Third, the attitude of service is good.
But it also has some disadvantages . Such as the price of the food is high, few variety to choose from, too long waiting time for buying food.
In my opinion,we can invite our student to take part in the canteen for offering the help.We may let the student list the food they like to let the canteen to make it.
I hope more and more student will like our canteen service.
Yours,
xxxx

Dear Cathy,
I am writing to you to share my opinions on fashion with you, for I have just heard that you were depressed because you couldnt afford the best(famous) brands.
I shall say that it is natural for everyone to pay much emphasis on his own image. And it is true that stylish clothes, shoes or something like those will make one more fashionable and eye-catching. However, everybody has his(her) own family background, and it is really extravagant for you to buy the famous brands. Besides, it will also add to the burden of your parents.
Whats more, beauty is just skin deep. There are many things which can make you popular with others except fashion. A great amount of knowledge, noble character and a warm heart will surely win others’ respect and admiration. Good qualities are the treasure in your life which is more valuable than anything you wear.
Never judge a person by the appearance. I hope that you will remember the saying and become as happy as you used to be.
Yours,Jane

Dear mayor,
As time goes by,man is making the earth sick.People cut down too many trees and leave rubbish everywhere.Factories let out their waste without doing anything to it.This has caused some serious problems. For example, the land is sandy, the river is dirty, the air is less clean, even the temperature of the earth is rising. What shall we do to save the earth? My suggestion is that we should plant more trees, put the rubbish into dustbins and stop factories pouring waste directly into the air or rivers.
In all,we have only one earth,we should do everything to protect it,or well regret.
Yours sincerely,
Lily Chen
