1986年，土耳其9歲的女學(xué)生豐達(dá)?卡拉戈茲萊和另一位同學(xué)給世界兒童寫信說：“我們希望在社區(qū)內(nèi)人人平等相待，我們希望生活在和平的世界中。我們雖然是孩子，也能夠改善這個(gè)世界。”這封信被送到聯(lián)合國兒童基金會(huì)，又送到聯(lián)合國代表們的手中，引起強(qiáng)烈反響。同年4月27日被定為“世界兒童日” (World Children's Day) ，同時(shí)，豐達(dá)?卡拉戈茲萊(funda karagozler) 亦成為該組織的名譽(yù)主席。此后，每年4月的第四個(gè)星期日，全世界的兒童代表來到紐約聯(lián)合國總部，表達(dá)他們對(duì)更加美好的世界的愿望，講述他們?yōu)樽约荷鐓^(qū)所作的貢獻(xiàn)。
