Should Universities lower Admission Requirements for Celebrities?
In recent years, many famous universities lower admission requirements for celebrities. More and more celebrities, especially sports stars, have been admitted to famous universities even without an entry examination. This phenomenon has become a subject of widespread controversy.
Some people object strongly that universities lower admission requirements for celebrities. They hold that this admission pattern will damage the basic fairness rule of education. In addition, they say that if a person who has not enough academic ability is admitted to the university, it would be an insult on college education. However, still other people think it acceptable. They say that these celebrities deserve this privilege because they have proved their abilities in their field. Besides, in their opinions, these celebrities to some extent set a good model for other young people.
Weighing these two arguments, I prefer the latter one. For one thing, these celebrities have sacrificed much learning time for their work, so they should be provided a better chance for learning. For another, if they accept advanced education, they could serve the society better. Therefore, I suggest that people should pay more attention to these celebrities’ efforts and contributions rather than the special treatment they enjoy.
gre argument :
The following appeared in a memo from the president of a chain of cheese stores located throughout the United States.
For many years all the stores in our chain have stocked a wide variety of both domestic and imported cheeses. Last year, however, the five best-selling cheeses at our newest store were all domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin. Furthermore, a recent survey by Cheeses of the World magazine indicates an increasing preference for domestic cheeses among its subscribers. Since our company can reduce expenses by limiting inventory, the best way to improve profits in all of our stores is to discontinue stocking many of our varieties of imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheeses.
The situation last year may be unusual, it does not indicate that domestic cheddar cheeses will also be popular in the future.
The situation at the newest store might not be representative of all stores.
The president does not provide any information about the subscribers of Cheese of the World, thus they may not be representative of United States consumers.
I always feel tired after eight classes a day, so my dream school starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. There are three lessons in the morning and two in the afternoon. We can choose our favorite lessons to learn.
We can spend more time doing some outside reading. The students do after-school activities for one and a half hours every day. We needn’t do a lot of homework. We are all happy to stay at school.
Besides that, my dream school looks like a big garden. There are many kinds of flowers around the modern buildings. Sweet perfumes are diffused all around. If I want to have a rest, I can lie on the grass, listen to music by the lake or look out at the flowers from the classroom windows.
I love my dream school. We will grow up to be happier there.

Thank you very much for your kind invitation to ...
接著寫具體的展開,不能去的原因等等,看題干的要求;
we have another event to attend on the same day.
I'am awfully sorrry that I shall not be able to ...
It was thoughtful of you to invite me. I do hope you will ask me again some time.
Firstly, I want to express my heartful congratualtion to you on+具體事件

或者:we 'd be much delighted to accept your invitation.

I like watching horror movie. My friends admire me for this reason. But before, I was very afraid of horrible things, like ghost story, even in the dark would scare me. I remembered that as a-three-year old girl, I beg my mother to tell me the story before I went to bed. Some day, she told me a story about a girl disappeared in the dark. Then in the dream, could think of the darkness that wanted to cover me. For some time, when I went upstairs at night, I felt so scared. I would rush to my room and then went to sleep soon. As I grew up, conquered my fear by watching horror movies. I knew the ghost did not exist, and the real fear was from our heart.

(A Wolf’s Tale)
with all her big brothers and sisters off to school, our ranch became a lonely place for our three-year-old daughter, becky. she longed for playmates. cattle and horses were too big to cuddle and farm machinery dangerous for a child so small. we promised to buy her a puppy but in the meantime, “pretend” puppies popped up nearly every day.
i had just finished washing the lunch dishes when the screen door slammed and becky rushed in, cheeks flushed with excitement. “mama!” she cried, “come see my new doggy! i gave him water two times already. he’s so thirsty!”
i sighed, another of becky’s imaginary dogs.
“please come, mama.” she tugged at my jeans, her brown eyes pleading, “he’s crying — and he can’t walk!”
“can’t walk?” now that was a twist. all her previous make-believe dogs could do marvelous things. one balanced a ball on the end of its nose. another dug a hole that went all the way through the earth and fell out on a star on the other side.
still another danced on a tightrope. why suddenly a dog that couldn’t walk?
“all right, honey,” i said. by the time i tried to follow her, becky had already disappeared into the mesquite.
“where are you?” i called.
“over here by the oak stump. hurry, mama!”
